Welcome to the 2020 Spring Session I

Elementary School Aged Students:

Students will spend five weeks exploring many aspects of veterinary medicine in a hands-on, interactive way.  All lessons will be taught at an age-appropriate level. Students should prepare for many special visitors AND unique activities! Our classes are perfect for all students, Pre-K through 12th grade, who love animals, science and learning.

This session will run from the week of March 30th through the week of May 4th.

***Please note – There is no class on April 8,9,10 due to Passover and good Friday – makeup class for those days will be on May 13, 14, 15. There will be no regular classes for Spring Break, April 13th-17th***

Check out this session’s class schedule:

Week 1: Pig Training

Did you know that pigs can be trained much in the same way as dogs? Students will work with our little piglet to teach him good behavior…and a few tricks TOO!

Week 2: Bioluminescence

Did you ever wonder how a firefly glows? Students will learn all about the causes of and reasons for the fascinating phenomenon of bioluminescence! Younger students will create their own glowing creatures and older students will observe and work with real living bioluminescent organisms!

Week 3: Body Systems I

This is the first half of the Body Systems course of study. Both sessions will delve into the different body systems and how they work and function together using fun, hands-on activities.

Week 4:  Setting up the Nursery – Hatching Chicks

Environmental factors play a huge role in the development of animals. Students will set-up the nursery for the eggs and participate in activities that demonstrate the role the environment plays in the animal’s life cycle. We will be caring for and monitoring our eggs all session as we wait for them to hatch!

Week 5:  Baking for Pets

Nutrition is an important part of every animal’s good health.  Students will participate in creating healthy recipes and baking treats for different types of pets.  We will learn about how different pets have different nutritional needs and some of our resident pets will even be taste testing!
