In most cases, blood, urine, and fecal samples will be assessed at a laboratory and the results will be available within 24 hours. In emergency situations, your samples will be processed immediately by the HousePaws staff at our hospital and results will be obtained within 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Radiology
In the event your pet needs x-rays, we have a mobile x-ray, or you can come in to one of our hospitals for an x-ray. Results are obtained immediately.
Breeding Services and Whelping Assistance
Semen collection and evaluation, artificial insemination and testing to determine ovulation are available to help ease the breeding process and achieve pregnancy when desired. Whelping assistance is available and recommended. Pets have a natural instinct when it comes to the birthing process. They know what needs to be done better than anyone else. If this process is overly complicated by humans, the outcome can be detrimental to the mother and the pups. Whelping guidance and assistance helps ensure that pets will have the most natural and safe birth possible.
Surgical Services
If your pet needs surgery, our state of the art hospitals are equipped for surgeries. Following surgery, we personally will manage your pet’s recovery until your pet is ready to come home.
Anesthesia
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient’s vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, carbon dioxide and oxygen levels, and heart function are monitored by an anesthesia technician during all anesthetic procedures.
Overnight Care
Certain illnesses will require that your pet be hospitalized overnight. If your pet has an unstable condition, you will be referred to an overnight hospital where a doctor is in the building 24 hours a day and our veterinarians will stay in contact with the veterinarian overseeing your pet.
Dental
Dentistry
All of the veterinarians and veterinary dental hygienist maintain participate in continuing education courses with the prestigious Animal Dental Center in Baltimore. Our dental services include teeth cleaning, polishing, dental x-rays, nerve blocks, tooth extractions and oral surgery. All cleanings and x-rays are performed by a technician who serves as a hygienist. The oral exam and any surgical procedures are done by our veterinarians. Unlike a human dentist, we try to do all parts of the dental work-up at one time to reduce how often the pet will need to be anesthetized.
Anesthesia Free Dental Treatment
We are excited to offer this service. After an examination of your pet the veterinarian may determine your pet is able to have dental treatment without anesthesia. HousePaws proudly works with an Animal Dental Care technician. The technician uses calming techniques to relax the pet and then performs a scaling, polishing, and oral exam. The hygienist works directly under HousePaws veterinarian to make sure your pet’s teeth are perfect!
Anesthesia free dentals are not for every pet. These procedures are best for stage 1-2 periodontal disease and only after an oral exam but a veterinarian. Often, we do AFD as a part of the post dental plan for maintaining good oral hygiene.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years to produce a healing response in the body. Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles or fluid into certain points of the body where nerve bundles and blood vessels intersect. Through placement in these energy channels, the needles enhance blood circulation and stimulate the release of hormones with the goal of encouraging the body to correct imbalances. With its high rate of success and minimal risk, acupuncture treatment is one of the fastest growing services we offer in the treatment of a range of conditions. Some of the conditions that acupuncture is used to treat include pain, nausea, allergies, immune issues, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal problems, cancer treatment, orthopaedic problems, and more!

Chiropractic Care
After an exam with a veterinarian chiropractic care may be suggested as a treatment option. Animal Chiropractic offers a non-surgical, drug-free option for correcting bone, disc, and soft-tissue disorders related to improper spinal configuration and movement. Many neck, and back issues can be treated using chiropractic care.
How does it work?
Our pets live dynamic lives. When vertebrae in the spine become immovable through trauma, injury or degenerative wear and tear, the joints between them become jammed, often affecting the nerves and causing pain. Chiropractic focuses on alleviating pain and restoring normal function.
Animal Chiropractic is not limited to an injured or sick pet. Healthy and athletic animals are ideal candidates for chiropractic examination and care. Maintaining proper structural alignment permits optimal function of the muscles, nerves and tissues supporting the joints, resulting in improved movement, stance and flexibility. This alignment promotes increased agility, endurance, and overall performance. Broader benefits include superior immune function, healthier metabolism and a vibrant nervous system, facilitating your animal’s natural ability to heal. Chiropractic care can enhance the quality of your pet’s life in the long term, promoting the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle well into his later years.
